Hello loyal customers, friends and event attendees!
I want to thank all of you for the last seven years that you have stuck with us as your gaming venue of choice. We’ve moved 5 times in these past years and changed our hours substantially (and sometimes frustratingly) often, but you’ve still found time to come in and at least buy a few packs, board games or supplies, and attend our events.
We really appreciate you!
However, the nature of this business has changed considerably since we first opened in 2009. There are a lot more stores (often more convenient to you) and online retailers like CoolStuff and Amazon have made it impossible to keep our prices on board games competitive.
When we set out to open Mana Core, our purpose was to create a Magic community where players were friends outside of the store, and where events let you attend while still having a normal social life. We accomplished those goals but now we are changing our focus again.
Over the next few months, Mana Core will become a subsidiary of a new entity that will be more focused on casual board gaming. This new ‘club’ is yet to be named, but it will be a member’s only gaming space with an increased focus on social interaction and open play with a reduced focus on retail products.
First, there will be membership fees. These will either be day passes, monthly passes or annual passes. These fees will offset the cost of rent, utilities, and staff. Each pass will include additional benefits which are still to be determined. If you mainly come to the store now for events, don’t worry, you’re entry fee will include a day pass.
Second, member’s will have increased access to a library of games, prepared and self serve food and drink, and use of the space for gaming. As the space will be remotely monitored, we will be able to open the space to member’s for their use virtually 24 hours a day.
Over the next few weeks we will be laying out the space, stocking it with goodies and games, specifying membership rates and benefits as well as launching a new website specific to this enterprise.
We will also be hosting an open week and membership drive when the space is ready so that everyone can come by and check out the space for themselves.
